Rajinikanth's Jailer 2: Mohanlal’s body double clarifies climax controversy, admits making one mistake

Mohanlal, who played Mathew in Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, received cheers from fans, but his appearance in the Rajinikanth-starrer became a trending topic for reasons they did not expect. Several viewers expressed disappointment over the Malayalam superstar’s limited screen time. Now, Joby Kodakara, the mimicry artist who doubled for Mohanlal in the film, has opened up about his role, clarifying that only one or two shots featuring parts of his hands and legs made it to the final cut. He also denied that his face appeared in the climax. Here's more about the row surrounding it.

Joby Kodakara, the mimicry artist who worked as Mohanlal’s body double for the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial, has now addressed the speculation. In an interview with YouTube channel Jango Space, he said only one or two shots featuring him made it into the film. He also denied claims that his face was used in the climax.

Talking about his contribution, Joby said the shots featuring him were limited to parts of his hands and legs. These appeared during the airport sequence in the climax, including shots of someone changing gears while driving and pressing the accelerator.

“To be honest, only one or two shots featuring me have been used in the film. Only parts of my hands and legs are visible. These appear in the airport scene during the climax,” he said. Joby also rejected claims that the face seen in the climax belonged to him. “My face has not been shown anywhere in the film. The face that people claim was used in the climax is not mine. I am certain about that,” he clarified. Joby also acknowledged that sharing photographs of himself in Mohanlal’s Mathew character look from the film’s sets was a mistake. “If you ask me what mistake I made, it was posting pictures taken on the film’s set,” he said.

The speculation gained momentum after Joby shared photographs of himself sporting Mohanlal’s look on the day Jailer 2 was released. Some viewers questioned whether he had stood in for the actor in scenes, including the climax, while his posts also got criticism online. Separately, Mohanlal’s stylist and costume designer for the film, Jishad Shamsudeen, expressed disappointment over scenes that did not make the final cut.

Meanwhile, Jailer 2 continued its theatrical run, with Sacnilk reporting a worldwide gross of Rs 541 crore as of October 20.
