Nedumbassery Mini Cooper accident: Voice message from third accused Joel spells trouble for prime accused Suhail Sajeev.
Nedumbassery Mini Cooper Accident: Voice Message from Third Accused, Joel, Implicates Prime Accused Suhail Sajeev
A voice message from a fellow passenger, Joel, has emerged as incriminating evidence against the prime accused, Suhail Sajeev, in the case involving a Mini Cooper crash in Nedumbassery that claimed three lives. The police have obtained crucial information from an audio clip Joel sent to a friend, revealing that the occupants had been drinking and that the vehicle was traveling at an excessive speed. The District Court, which heard arguments on the accused's bail plea, is set to deliver its verdict the day after tomorrow.
Joel sent the voice message to his friend at 9:25 AM on the day of the accident. In the message, he recounts that they had visited a bar together the previous night and consumed alcohol—noting that Suhail Sajeev had already been drinking before they met. Joel mentions that he also drank beer. Afterward, the car was driven at a high speed and collided with a scooter, resulting in the immediate death of all three individuals on the scooter. Joel states that it was Ninav who told him and Ameen to flee the scene. The one-minute-and-43-second-long message also conveys that he is still shaken by witnessing the accident and the deaths. Following the rejection of their bail plea by the Angamaly Magistrate Court, the accused had approached the District Court. During the bail hearing, the prosecution and the counsel for the family of the deceased, Gopika, brought this evidence to the court's attention.
Tests conducted on Suhail Sajeev’s blood and urine samples have confirmed the presence of alcohol. The results of tests to determine whether any other intoxicants were used are still awaited. Additionally, details from the examination of the car’s Event Data Recorder (EDR) are yet to be received. Given these circumstances, the prosecution argued against granting bail. The defense, however, pointed out that the accused have been in judicial custody for over 14 days, and that police interrogation and evidence collection have already been completed. They argued that it is unjust to keep 19-year-olds in jail any longer. Having heard the arguments, the court will deliver its verdict on the bail application on Wednesday.
