The police have taken into custody the female friend of the second accused, Umar Muftar, in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Plus One student Abhiram in Pangappara, Sreekaryam. The police suspect that she was aware of the murder and assisted in destroying evidence.
Information regarding the involvement of another person in the case emerged during the interrogation of Umar Muftar. The investigation team has also discovered that, immediately following the murder, Umar contacted another friend by phone from the crime scene to seek assistance.
According to police findings, the accused murdered Abhiram after subjecting him to a brutal assault. The post-mortem examination revealed injuries on his head, neck, eyes, and chest. The police stated that preliminary details from the post-mortem report indicate that, following the assault, the victim was strangled—using hands and a belt—until he suffocated to death.
The body of M.D. Abhiram was discovered on Monday evening, tied inside a sack in a deserted plot of land in Pangappara, Sreekaryam. The first accused, a 17-year-old, has been moved to an observation home in Poojappura. The second accused, Umar Muftar, and the third accused, Ananda, have been remanded in judicial custody.
Abhiram was murdered by the first and second accused. The Commissioner stated that the murder was committed by strangling the victim using hands and a belt.
