Flat catches fire; 35-year-old man and two children die after jumping from seventh floor

A 35-year-old man and his two children died after they jumped from their apartment in Dwarka, the national capital, following a massive fire, police said. The fire broke out on the seventh floor of a residential building. The tragic incident was reported at Shapath Society in Dwarka Sector-13 around 10 am on Tuesday.
Visuals from the scene of the fire have been released. In the video, the building is seen engulfed in flames, smoke rises and the area is covered in grey. A group of people can also be seen on a balcony of the building. Three members of a family have died, news agency PTI reports. A 10-year-old boy and a girl died. The twin brothers jumped from the balcony to escape the fire, reports say. They were rushed to Akash Hospital, but their lives could not be saved. Their father Yash Yadav, who jumped from the balcony, also died.
Meanwhile, Yadav's wife and elder son escaped the fire. They were shifted to IGI Hospital for medical attention. All the residents of Shapath Society were evacuated. To avoid any untoward incident, electricity and gas connections were temporarily disconnected.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been tasked to check the structural stability of the building. Eight fire tenders have reached the spot to douse the fire. In addition, sky lifts have been deployed to speed up the rescue operation. The cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
