Rohit Sharma retires from Test cricket

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket. He made the unexpected announcement through Instagram Story. Rohit wrote that he is proud to represent the country in the white shirt. He also clarified in the post that he will continue to play for India in ODI cricket.

'I would like to inform everyone that I am retiring from Test cricket. I am proud to represent the country in the white shirt. Thank you for your love and support over the years. I will play for India in ODI cricket.' - Rohit wrote on Instagram.

38-year-old Rohit Sharma has scored 4301 runs from 67 Tests. He has scored 12 centuries, 18 half-centuries and a double century. There were rumours that Rohit would be dropped from the team after the recent complete defeat in the Test series against New Zealand and the subsequent abandonment of the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia, and the failure to qualify for the Test Championship final.

Rohit Sharma made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2013. The five-Test series in England begins on June 20. India will be playing Tests under a new captain. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are the most likely candidates.
