Democracy, freedom under attack in West Bengal: Governor C V Ananda Bose

A BID on the second successive day to obstruct an Enforcement Directorate team as it arrested another Trinamool Congress leader accused in the alleged ration scam in West Bengal is set to increase pressure on the Mamata Banerjee government.

Both the BJP and the TMC’s partners in the INDIA alliance, Congress and CPI(M), had flayed Friday night’s attack on an ED team, leaving several officials injured. Speaking to The Indian Express, West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose had said the incident, in 24 North Parganas District, showed that “democracy is under attack” in West Bengal.

“The Constitution has the strength to establish democracy over mobocracy. The Constitution envisages people’s sovereignty, not party sovereignty. India is a federation, there cannot be a State within a State. That is imperium,” he said.
