Jharkhand: Spanish Woman on Tour With Husband Gang-raped in Dumka, Three Detained

In Jharkhand, a Spanish woman, who was on a bike tour with her husband, was allegedly gang-raped in the ​​Dumka district on Friday night. The incident occurred at Kurumahat in the Hansdiha police station area where the tourist couple was spending the night in a makeshift tent.

SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar reached the site of the incident late in the night and detained three people. “The incident of gangrape occurred on Friday night,” Jarmundi Sub Divisional Police Officer Santosh Kumar told PTI.

Another official, on the condition of anonymity, said seven to eight local youths were involved in the incident.

According to reports, the woman, on a bike tour with her husband, was on the way to Nepal via Bhagalpur. The couple were travelling to Bhagalpur via Dumka when the incident took place.

The woman said in her complaint that she had pitched her tent in a deserted area near Hansdiha market. While she was sleeping, some local youths entered the tent and took turns in raping her, the woman added. The accused also beat her up, the woman noted her complaint.

Following the incident, she was admitted to Saraiyahat CHC for treatment.

An investigation into the case is underway.
