Humiliated by seniors, Andhra constable quits job, cracks UPSC

Former police constable Uday Krishna Reddy from Andhra Pradesh has secured rank 780 in the highly competitive UPSC civil services examination. For Reddy, the taste of success is made sweeter by the fact that he resigned from his job to prepare for the exam. It also marks a moment of vindication for Reddy, who was humiliated by his seniors while working as a police constable in 2018, reports Indian Express.

Uday Krishna Reddy was reportedly shamed in front of 60 colleagues by a circle inspector. The incident led him to resign from the job and devote all his time to UPSC preparation.

“My circle inspector did not like the fact that I was preparing for civils in my leisure time. He would make fun of my preparation, and assign me duty out of turn to demotivate me. One day he mocked my preparation in front of 60 colleagues and gave me an extra hour of drill as punishment when I was a little late,” Reddy told the Indian Express. “He just wanted to limit my career progress.”

Reddy says he sent his resignation the same day. However, his senior officer did not forward the letter and marked him absent. This led to Reddy being served with a deserter notice later that year.

“He took out his grudge against me by not accepting my resignation. I had to then request the SP to relieve me, while I worked hard on my preparations,” the Andhra man said.
