Janaki v/s State of Kerala; Revised version to be submitted to Censor Board today, likely to get release today

The revised version of the film Janaki vs. State of Kerala (JSK) will be submitted to the Censor Board today. The muted portions and edited subtitles will be submitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Censor Board office by 10 am. The Censor Board is likely to give release permission to the revised version today itself.

The makers had informed the High Court the other day that the name of the film could be changed to V Janaki vs. State of Kerala. The makers also informed the High Court that the name Janaki could be muted in the trial scenes. The makers informed the court that they would accept the suggestions put forward by the Censor Board to get the film to theatres as soon as possible.

Not all the parts in which the name Janaki is used in the film will be changed. The name will be muted in the scenes where the central character Janaki is being tried. The censor board had suggested that the character's full name, Janaki Vidyadharan or Janaki V, be used instead of using Janaki. The censor board had also suggested that a dialogue in the court scene that uses Janaki's name should be changed or muted.

When the court considered the case, the producers informed the court about the difficulty of changing the title. The producers also informed that about 96 parts where the name Janaki is used will have to be cut. With this, the censor board clarified that adding V to the title would suffice. The producer had also clarified that the members of the censor board had said that the part where the name is used in the court scenes should be muted.

The film Janaki vs. State of Kerala, starring Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran, has been stuck with the name 'Janaki'. Anupama plays a pregnant woman in the film due to rape. The controversy arose over the name Janaki for this character.
