Pune: Woman raped on a stopped bus; Accused arrested after 75-hour manhunt

Dattatreya Ramdas Gade, accused in the rape of a 26-year-old woman inside a bus at Swargate bus station in Pune, was arrested on Friday. Gade was arrested from Srirur tehsil after an investigation that lasted for about 75 hours.

The woman was raped on Tuesday morning in a bus at Swargate bus stand, one of the largest bus depots of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), about 100 metres from the police station. The incident took place between 5.45 am and 6 am while she was waiting to board a bus to her hometown in Satara district.

Dattatreya Gade is an accused in several cases including theft, robbery and chain fraud. A reward of Rs one lakh was announced yesterday for anyone who provides information about the accused by releasing his picture.
