What are the 28 types of plastic products banned by Ooty and Kodaikanal

A complete ban on 28 types of plastic products has been imposed in the areas bordering Tamil Nadu, from the Nilgiris to the Agasthyamala hills in Kanyakumari. The Madras High Court imposed the plastic ban with the aim of protecting the environment and ecosystem of the Western Ghats. The High Court announced the verdict after deciding the petitions filed for the ban on plastic in the Nilgiris.

The list of banned plastic products includes plastic PET bottles used for filling water, mineral water and juice, plastic sheets/cling films used for wrapping food, sheets for spreading on dining tables, plastic or thermocol plates, plastic-coated paper plates and cups, tea cups, tumblers, plastic carry bags, non-woven carry bags, water pouches, packets, straws, flags, large and thick plastic carry bags, and plastic cutlery.

Leaf or earthenware containers can be used to distribute food. The court has directed that vendors should sell biscuits sold in plastic packets only after transferring them to paper. The order was issued by a special division bench comprising Justice N. Satheeshkumar and Justice D. Bharata Chakravarthy. The High Court has issued the new order by codifying the government orders of 2018 and 2024 and the High Court judgment of 2019.
