A woman committed suicide in a mob trial for talking to her boyfriend; 3 SDPI members remanded

A woman committed suicide in a mob trial in Kayalod, Pinarayi. Rasina (40) was found hanging inside her house on Tuesday. The Pinarayi police have arrested three SDPI activists in connection with the incident. The arrest was based on a tip-off received from a note written by Rasina.

VC Mubashir (28) of M C Manzil, KA Faisal (34) of Kaniyante Valappil, and V K Rafnas (24) of Koodathankandi House, natives of Parambai, were arrested. They were produced before the Thalassery Judicial First Class Magistrate Court and remanded to the Thalassery Sub Jail.
A group questioned Razina while she was talking to her friend near the Achankara church in Kayalodu at around 3 pm on Sunday. After sending the young woman back home, the friend, a native of Mayyil, was assaulted and taken to a nearby ground. The group interrogated the young man for about five hours, seized his mobile phone and tab and brought him to the SDPI office in Parambai at around 8.30 pm. The relatives of both were called to the office. The young man was released late at night with his relatives.

The group did not agree to hand over the tab and mobile phone seized from the young man. The police later recovered both of these from the arrested accused. Inspector N Ajeesh Kumar said that there are more accused in the incident and the investigation is progressing. Sub-inspector BS Bavish is in charge of the investigation.
