Cyber-harassment: Prominent Influencer with 1.3 Million Followers Takes His Own Life
V. Harish (27)—a prominent finance influencer followed by hundreds of thousands on social media and the creator of the popular brand 'Finance with Harish'—was found hanging in a rented villa in Chennai. His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the social media community, where he commanded a following of over 1.3 million across Instagram and YouTube.
Harish’s father has alleged that his son’s death was caused by severe cyber-harassment and mental torment inflicted by Jason Samuel, the CEO of the venture studio 'Zemuria Inc.' The conflict began when Jason Samuel alleged that Harish lacked the necessary financial licenses. Following complaints filed by Samuel, Meta (the parent company of Instagram) took down Harish’s primary Instagram account.
Despite the closure of that account, Harish continued to share videos on financial topics through a new page. His family states that the persistent cyber-attacks from Samuel subjected Harish to intense mental distress, which ultimately led him to take his own life. His father has demanded a thorough police investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Jason Samuel shared a note on X expressing shock over the news of Harish's death. He asserted that he had not engaged in cyberbullying against Harish, but had merely pointed out unlawful activities.
"I am deeply saddened by what has happened. I only pointed out that he lacked the necessary SEBI license to provide financial advice and that he was spreading false information. I simply asked him to return only after obtaining the proper license. I never expected such a tragic outcome." — Jason Samuel (CEO, Semuria Incorporated)
Although the police have not yet registered a formal case, a preliminary investigation into the incident has begun.
