Diesel subsidy stopped: Assassination attempt on Ecuadorian President, car blocked and shot; Arrest

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa was assassinated. The assassination attempt took place during a protest against Noboa's action to end diesel subsidies. It is reported that the protesters opened fire after surrounding Noboa's car. Five people were arrested in the incident. The Minister of Environment and Energy Ines Manzano said that signs of bullets were found on the president's vehicle. His response was after the official submission of the report on the assassination attempt on Noboa. "Shooting at the president's car, throwing stones, damaging public property of the country. This is a crime. We will not allow this," said Ines Manzano.
Noboa's office announced that the arrested protesters will be charged with terrorism and attempted murder. There are allegations of a planned attack on protesters who gathered for Noboa's arrival. Elderly women have also been reported to have been victims of the brutal police and military crackdown. Protesters say at least five of them have been arbitrarily detained. The strike began 16 days ago in the country to protest the end of diesel subsidies. Marches and road blockades were held in various areas as part of this. Noboa's critics say more talks are needed and that the move will increase the cost of living, including for small farmers.
