Heavy Rain Triggers Waterlogging, Traffic struck in Bengaluru
Heavy rainfall persisted in Bengaluru on Monday morning, resulting in the flooding of numerous roads and the inundation of several apartment basements. Similar weather conditions were experienced on Sunday, leading to significant disruptions throughout the city.
In response to the severe weather, the District Collector declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadis in the city on Monday, October 21.
“Given the ongoing rainfall in the Bengaluru Urban district, a holiday has been announced on October 21 for all Anganwadi centres, as well as private and aided primary and secondary schools, as a precautionary measure to safeguard students,” stated the official announcement.
This decision was taken to prioritize the safety of students and staff amid the adverse weather, which has resulted in waterlogging and traffic issues in various areas of Bengaluru.
However, all other institutions offering degree courses, postgraduate programs, diplomas, engineering, and ITI courses are not observing a holiday, according to the official directive. College administrators have been instructed to evaluate the condition of their facilities and refrain from utilizing those that are structurally unsound or in disrepair.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru has issued an ‘orange alert’ for heavy rainfall expected over the next three hours throughout the city. The weather agency has forecasted moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, along with lightning, in the hours ahead.
