India opens more shutters of Salal Dam; Flood risk in Pakistan

Flood risk in Pakistan amid India-Pakistan war. The risk of flooding in Pakistan has increased after the opening of four shutters of the Salal Dam on the Chenab River, which flows into Pakistan. The authorities opened more shutters of the dam in the wake of heavy rains in the area in the past few days.

Water gushed in after the shutters were opened. With this, there is a risk of flooding in the low-lying areas of Pakistan. Salal is the second dam to be opened in India after the Indus Water Treaty was frozen. Earlier, India had also opened the Uri Dam. With this, water had entered the low-lying areas of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Last week, India had closed the shutters of the Salal Dam without giving any warning to Pakistan. This caused heavy damage to Pakistan's agricultural sector. Meanwhile, India continues to maintain a strong stance regarding the Indus Water Treaty. India's stance is that it will not give any further warning to Pakistan at any stage.
