Jammu and Kashmir cloudburst; Death toll in flash floods rises to 50, over 200 missing

The death toll in the cloudburst and flash floods in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 50. More than 100 people were injured. They have been admitted to hospitals. More than 200 people are missing, according to national media reports. NDRF and SDRF, security forces, police and locals are carrying out rescue operations.

Adverse weather conditions are posing a challenge to rescue operations. The UAE has expressed its condolences to the victims of the Jammu and Kashmir flash floods. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it stands with India. Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh said that the large cloudburst in the Chositi area could cause significant damage and that the administration has taken immediate action.

The flash floods occurred in Chositi in Kashmir's Kishtwar district following a cloudburst. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon. The cloudburst and flash flood occurred at the beginning of the path to the Machhail Mata pilgrimage center in Kishtwar. Most of the dead are reported to be pilgrims. Officials had announced that a travel ban has been imposed on the temple following the floods.
