Kerala has been given the necessary assistance; Kerala has not yet utilized Rs 36 crore, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that Rs 530 crore has been provided to Kerala for the rehabilitation of the victims of the Mundakai-Churalmala landslide disaster in Wayanad. Union Minister Amit Shah said that the Center has provided the necessary assistance to Kerala on time. Amit Shah was replying during the discussion on the National Disaster Management Bill.

Kerala had requested Rs 2,219 crore for rehabilitation. Kerala had been allocated Rs 215 crore from the National Disaster Management Fund. Amit Shah also clarified in the Rajya Sabha that an additional Rs 153 crore was provided based on the ministerial report. Amit Shah said that further assistance will be provided as per the norms.

The Center has no politics in the face of disaster. The people of Kerala and the people of Ladakh are Indians. This government does not need to play politics in the face of disaster. Amit Shah said that Kerala has not spent the Rs 36 crore it provided to remove the debris. Amit Shah clarified that the Centre had declared the Wayanad disaster as a "very severe disaster".
