Pilgrims at Golden Temple attacked; attacker in police custody

Pilgrims who had come to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, were allegedly beaten up. The complaint is that the attacker beat up the pilgrims who had come for darshan with an iron rod. Reports say that the police arrested the attacker and removed him and the situation in the temple area was calmed down.

Two of the injured in the attack are volunteers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. One of the seriously injured has been admitted to the Shri Guru Ram Dasam Institute of Medical Sciences in Amritsar. The incident took place at the Guru Ramdas Langar, a community kitchen at the Golden Temple.

Police said that the accused and his accomplices were monitoring the entire temple premises before the attack. The attack took place in front of the devotees. The attacker and his accomplices were then subdued by those present in the temple complex and handed over to the police.
