Three policemen martyred in terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua; three terrorists killed

Three policemen were martyred in a terrorist attack in a forest area of Kathwa district of Jammu and Kashmir. Seven security personnel, including a police DSP, were injured. Three Pakistani terrorists were killed in the encounter. It is reported that a search is underway for the other three members of the terrorist group in a remote forest area where heavy firing took place.

The terrorists were confronted by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police with the support of police, army and paramilitary forces. The firing began on Thursday morning when security forces spotted the terrorists near Jakhole village in Ghati Jutana area of Rajbagh, about 30 km from the site of Sunday's encounter in Hiranagar sector.

More troops have been deployed in the area and the two sides are engaged in a gunfight, officials told news agency PTI. The terrorists are believed to be the same group that had engaged in a gunfight with security forces in the area on Sunday.

Over the past year, Kathua has emerged as a major infiltration route for Pakistan-based terrorists to reach the highlands of Udhampur, Doda and Kishtwar districts and Kashmir, as evidenced by several terror attacks. This has prompted security forces to intensify operations to eliminate the militants.
