Bomb Threat at Golden Temple: Email Threats Bomb Attack at Golden Temple's Langar Hall; Investigation Initiated

Officials said on Monday that authorities at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the holiest site for Sikhs, have received a bomb threat. A bomb disposal team reached the spot and conducted inspections.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), the highest religious governing body of Sikhs, has filed a complaint after receiving an email threatening to blow up the Langar Hall (community kitchen hall) at the Golden Temple, also known as Darbar Sahib.

The police are investigating the matter and senior police officials are monitoring the situation, SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said. Dhami said he could not say anything more about it at this time.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that a case has been registered in the case based on the complaint filed by the SGPC and an investigation has been initiated.

In addition, the cyber crime wing of the Punjab Police is also trying to trace the source of the threat mail.

Meanwhile, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla assessed the situation and demanded that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann take immediate action in the matter.

"An email has been received threatening to demolish the Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) with RDX. This is not just a threat to a religious centre - it is an attack on peace, faith and humanity," the parliamentarian wrote in the article.

"I request Hon'ble @BhagwantMann Ji and Punjab DGP @DGPPunjabPolice to take immediate and strong action. This is a holy place visited by lakhs of devotees and tourists every day. Security should not be compromised. All departments should be on high alert. We cannot tolerate any lapse in intelligence or protection. We stand united to protect our heritage," he added.
