No need to wait 45 days; Central government changes domestic LPG booking

The Central government has changed the domestic LPG booking period. The government has now changed the decision to set a 45-day interval after the supply of LPG through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted due to the US-Iran conflict. Now, all domestic LPG consumers in the country, regardless of rural or urban, can book a cylinder once every 25 days.
The information was released by Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism, through a Facebook post. The Ministry of Petroleum has issued an urgent directive to oil marketing companies in this regard.
The US-Iran conflict in February 2026 and the subsequent blockade in the Strait of Hormuz had seriously affected the global oil and energy supply chain. The central government had earlier imposed strict restrictions to avoid a situation where energy imports to India could be disrupted and the country could face a severe LPG shortage.
As part of this, the booking interval under the Essential Commodities Act was revised to 25 days in cities and 45 days in rural areas, and special gases like C3 and C4 were restricted to LPG production only. These supply disruptions also led to a rise in cooking gas prices in the country. After a domestic cylinder was increased by Rs 60 in March and then by Rs 29 in June, the price of a 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi had risen to Rs 942.
