Sabarimala Gold Robbery Case: Main Accused Unnikrishnan Potty Gets Bail in Second Case
Unnikrishnan Potty, the main accused in the Sabarimala gold robbery case, has been granted bail in a second linked case, paving the way for his release this evening.
The bail was granted in the Kattilapally case after the court noted that the investigation team had not filed a chargesheet even after 90 days, making Potty eligible for statutory bail.

Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court’s Devaswom Bench, which is monitoring the case, said the SIT probe is progressing in the right direction and clarified that the delay in filing the chargesheet is not a reason for concern at this stage.

Unnikrishnan Potty, the main accused in the Sabarimala gold robbery case, has been granted bail in the second case as well. With the latest order, Potty is expected to be released this evening.

The bail was granted in the Kattilapally case, after the court noted that a chargesheet had not been filed even after 90 days from the date of arrest. This made Potty eligible for statutory (natural) bail under legal provisions.

The court considered Potty’s bail plea on Monday and adjourned the matter for further arguments. The hearing was completed yesterday, following which the bail was granted.

Earlier, Potty had already received statutory bail in the Dwarapalaka case, another case linked to the same robbery. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has not yet filed a chargesheet in that case either.

So far, three accused in the Sabarimala gold robbery case have been released on bail. Former Administrative Officer Murari Babu and former Executive Officer Sudheesh Kumar were also granted statutory bail. Meanwhile, former Administrative Officer S. Sreekumar was granted bail on the 43rd day, with the court citing lack of evidence.

Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court’s Devaswom Bench, while hearing a petition seeking a CBI probe into the case, clarified that the SIT investigation is moving in the right direction. The bench also said there is no need to worry about the delay in filing the chargesheet, adding that the case is being monitored under court supervision.

The court observed that bail granted after 90 days will not weaken the investigation, and that filing a chargesheet in haste could risk gaps in the case during trial.
