Sanju Samson named wicketkeeper in Asia Cup squad; Suryakumar Yadav captain: Gill vice-captain

The Indian team for the Asia Cup tournament has been announced. Malayali star Sanju Samson will play as the main wicketkeeper in the team led by Suryakumar Yadav. Shubman Gill is the vice-captain. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack. Captain Suryakumar Yadav and BCCI Selection Committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar were present at the press conference.
Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Verma and Rinku Singh are the other batsmen in the team. Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubai and Axar Patel are the all-rounders. Apart from Sanju, Jitesh Sharma is also in the team as wicketkeeper. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are the other pacers. Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav are the spinners in the team.
The team was earlier expected to be announced at 1.30 pm on Tuesday. However, the press conference started late. Many of the BCCI representatives reached the BCCI headquarters late due to heavy rains in Mumbai. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer were left out of the team.
This year's Asia Cup tournament in the T20 format will be held in the UAE. The tournament, which starts on September 9, will end on the 28th. There will be a total of 19 matches in the tournament, which will feature six teams.
