UPI transactions now have biometric authentication

A new system is coming to provide more security to the country's money transfer users. From October 8, facial recognition and fingerprints can be used for transactions made through UPI. Sources said that the verification will be done using biometric data stored in the unified identification system Aadhaar.

Till now, users used to provide a numeric PIN (PIN) to make transactions. The new system is a significant change from this.
The new authentication method will use biometric data stored in the government's Aadhaar system. The move follows new guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowing other approved methods for digital payments. It aims to make UPI transactions faster, safer and more convenient.

Sources said that the National Payments Corporation of India, which operates UPI, is planning to showcase the new biometric system at the Global Fintech Festival in Mumbai.
