Government employees need permission from superiors to spend more than Rs 5,000; Uttarakhand government issues order

Uttarakhand has issued a strange order to control the spending of government officials. The order states that government employees need permission from superiors if they want to spend more than Rs 5,000. This means that employees need permission from their superiors if they want to buy a phone, a saree or anything else.
The order in this regard was issued on July 14, NDTV reported. The report pointed out that the order states that government employees must inform their superiors and take permission before buying or selling any movable property or making any transaction related to it, using funds exceeding one month's salary or Rs 5,000, whichever is less.
The order also states that employees must take permission from their superiors before giving such property on lease or as a gift. It has been made mandatory for employees to disclose their assets at the time of joining the job and every five years. The disclosure of assets will be applicable to the spouse of the employee and other family members living in the same house.
There is widespread opposition among employees against the order. SC - ST Employees Federation President Karam Ram said that the government order is ridiculous. He also demanded that the controversial order be withdrawn. He also asked whether prior approval is required for items that are usually purchased for the family.
He pointed out that in this era of inflation, when you are liable to pay ten types of taxes, buying something for your wife or children will cost more than Rs 5,000. He added that should the department head be asked to buy a saree for your wife and clothes for your child?
He also suggested that the spending limit be raised to Rs 1 lakh after discussions. Other employees also expressed anger at the order. The employees said that approval is required only for property and vehicles
