Kerala Rain: Water enters places that were not flooded during the 2018 floods, causing widespread damage in Idukki

A yellow alert has been issued in nine districts today. The yellow alert is in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. A cautionary warning has also been issued as there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorms for the next five days. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of wind gusts of 30 to 40 kmph. Fishing has also been banned along the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep till Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Idukki district is receiving the most rainfall. There was waterlogging in many places in the district. There was a situation of landslides in some places. Many vehicles were swept away in the waterlogging in some places. Hundreds of houses in Nedumkandam and Kattappana have been flooded due to the heavy rains that started last night. Locals say that now there is waterlogging in places that did not flood even during the 2018 floods.
There is also a suspicion of a landslide near Kattappana. Towns like Koottar, Third Camp, Sanyasa Yoda, Mundyeruma, Thukkupalam, Thannimoodu and Kallar were submerged. People were rescued from their houses after the water entered Kumily. The shutters of Kallar dam were completely raised. Three shutters of Mullaperiyar dam were opened. The shutters R1, R2, and R3 were raised by 75 centimeters each. 1064 cubic feet of water is being released from the dam. The three shutters of the dam were opened at around 9 am this morning.
