Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Nigeria's highest civilian award
Nigeria awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger. Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the award during his visit to Nigeria.
Modi is the second foreign national to receive this honour. Queen Elizabeth was the first recipient of Nigeria's highest civilian award. This is also the 17th international award given to the Prime Minister by a foreign country.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister who arrived in Nigeria received a warm welcome in the country. The Prime Minister was received by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Esenwo Wike in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. The Prime Minister will be in Nigeria for two days.
Modi's visit to Nigeria is at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is after 17 years that an Indian Prime Minister is visiting Nigeria. The visit is aimed at further strengthening diplomatic relations between India and Nigeria.
India and Nigeria have had strong bilateral relations since 2007. The two countries are working together in all areas of economic, energy, defense and cooperation.
More than 200 Indian companies have invested over $27 billion in key sectors in Nigeria. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister from Nigeria will be going to Brazil to attend the G20 summit in Brazil. After this he will also visit Ghana.
