Pakistan violates ceasefire for fifth consecutive night in Kupwara and Baramulla; India retaliates

The Pakistani army violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir for the fifth consecutive night. The Indian army responded effectively, officials said this morning. The firing came amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam last week. The firing took place in areas opposite Kupwara and Baramulla districts and in Akhnoor sector.
On the intervening night of April 28-29, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing with small arms across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara and Baramulla districts and in Akhnoor sector. The provocation was befittingly and effectively retaliated by the Indian Army.” The army said in a statement. Pakistani troops have been firing at various Indian posts along the Line of Control since Thursday night. No casualties have been reported so far.
India had announced on Wednesday that it would take strict action against Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, including a Nepali national, on Tuesday. The measures include suspending the 65-year-old Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari land border and expelling Pakistani military attaches. In response, Pakistan has threatened to suspend all agreements with New Delhi, including the 1972 Simla Agreement that formalized the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
