'Supreme Court says there is no obstacle to continuing SIR in Kerala, will decide on December 2 whether to intervene'; Commission says political parties are creating the problem
The Supreme Court said there is no obstacle to continuing SIR in Kerala. The Supreme Court was considering the state government's petition seeking postponement of the voter list revision in the wake of the local body elections. Meanwhile, the Commission argued that political parties are creating the problem in Kerala. However, the Kerala government raised a counter argument that the situation is not what the Commission is told.
Kerala's case will be considered on December 2. The Supreme Court said that it can decide on whether to intervene in Kerala's petition in two days. The court also said that it will see if there is a worrying situation then. Meanwhile, the court directed that the Tamil Nadu petition be filed by December 1. The Supreme Court also directed that the affidavit be filed by Monday in the Kerala matter.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Suryakant observed that the situation in Kerala in the SIR is different. The Commission argued in the court that political parties are creating the problem in Kerala. The Election Commission told the court that when the case came up in the Kerala High Court, the district collectors had also informed it that there would be no difficulty. The proceedings are proceeding quickly. Each and every step is progressing. The Commission also clarified in the Supreme Court that it can submit an affidavit if required.
