Antony Raju suffers major setback in Thondimuthal Thirimari case; High Court rejects plea to stay sentence, will not be able to contest elections
Former minister Antony Raju suffers major setback in Thondimuthal Thirimari case. The High Court has rejected Antony Raju's plea to stay sentence. With this, Antony Raju's disqualification from contesting elections will continue.
Antony Raju, who is also a leader of the Democratic Kerala Congress, filed an appeal in the High Court with the aim of contesting from the Thiruvananthapuram Central constituency. Antony Raju was sentenced to three years in prison by the Nedumangad court in the Thondimuthal Thirimari case.
The petition had sought that he could not contest the elections as he was under sentence and therefore the sentence should be stayed and the appeal should be heard later. In addition, Antony Raju had stated in the petition that his age should be taken into account and that he might not get a chance to contest again.
