Mohan Bhagwat says leaders should retire after 75 years; Opposition says remark against Modi, controversy

RSS Sarsangh Chalak Mohan Bhagwat's remark that political leaders should retire after 75 years is in controversy. Mohan Bhagwat said that they should retire after 75 years and give others a chance. The opposition argues that this remark is against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will turn 75 in September this year.
'When you turn 75, it means that everything should be stopped. You should make way for others,' was Mohan Bhagwat's remark at a book launch event in Nagpur. Several opposition leaders have also come forward with their responses. The opposition argues that the remark is against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
'We have seen Modi retire leaders like LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Jaswant Singh. Will the same decision be applicable to Modi too,' asked Shiv Sena Uddhav faction MP Sanjay Raut. Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi responded by saying, "We need to show, not talk. Let's see if the current rulers will join us in this."
After the opposition took up Mohan Bhagwat's remarks, the BJP has come forward with an explanation. The BJP's explanation was that Modi had earlier been given a relaxation in the age limit. Modi had been given a relaxation in the age limit in the answer even before the Lok Sabha elections. At that time, the BJP said that there was no rule in the party that one should retire at the age of 75. However, the age limit had been tightened for all other leaders in the party.
