Sabarimala Gold Robbery: Unnikrishnan Potty Gets Bail in Second Case, Release Today
Unnikrishnan Potty granted bail in Sabarimala gold robbery case

Unnikrishnan Potty, the main accused in the Sabarimala gold robbery case, has been granted bail in the second case as well. With this, Potty will be released this evening. Unnikrishnan Potty has now been granted bail in the second case, the Kattilapally case. Potty was eligible for natural bail as he had not filed a chargesheet even after 90 days of his arrest.

The court considered Unnikrishnan Potty's bail plea in the Kattilapally case on Monday. The case was then adjourned for further arguments yesterday. The hearing on the bail plea was completed yesterday. Potty had earlier been granted natural bail in the Dwarapalaka case. The SIT has not yet filed a chargesheet in the case. So far, three accused in the gold robbery case have been released on bail. Former Administrative Officer Murari Babu and former Executive Officer Sudheesh Kumar were granted natural bail. However, the court granted bail to former Administrative Officer S. Sreekumar on the 43rd day citing lack of evidence.

The Devaswom bench of the High Court, which heard the plea of BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekharan seeking a CBI investigation into the Sabarimala gold robbery case yesterday, has clarified that the SIT investigation into the Sabarimala gold robbery case is in the right direction and there is no need to worry about the delay in filing the chargesheet.

The Devaswom bench, comprising Justices V. Raja Vijayaraghavan and K. V. Jayakumar, had opined that the case is being conducted under their supervision and that none of the perpetrators will escape just because they have been granted bail. It is not believed that the fact that the accused have been granted bail after 90 days will affect the investigation. If the chargesheet is filed in a hurry, there is a possibility that the accused will escape before the trial. The court also said to wait.
